Making music since 1956.
Huron is the only community in South Dakota that maintains a symphony without the support of a university thanks to your help. The Huron Symphony Orchestra is truly a community-based organization, providing opportunities for both patrons and musicians to participate in the making of live orchestral music.
In addition to being a huge cultural asset, the Huron Symphony Orchestra enhances the public school string program, which is one of the few remaining in the state, by providing a valuable outlet for high school age musicians who wish to gain additional orchestral experience. The HSO also provides an important outlet for adult musicians from small communities and outlaying rural areas. For many individuals in the area, the HSO provides the only opportunity to experience live orchestral music.
Our organization depends almost entirely on the contributions of our patrons and sponsoring businesses for much-appreciated financial assistance for the purchase and/or rental of music, importing some musicians, mileage, rental expense, advertising, and our conductor’s salary.
